Department Overview

In today’s world, where communication technologies have become digitalized, global, and interactive, our Department adopts an analytical, up-to-date, and interdisciplinary approach to media and communication studies. By developing both theoretical and practical foundations grounded in the ongoing transformations in media and communication, the Department aims to respond effectively to the needs of society. It plans to offer education that combines core knowledge in the social sciences and humanities with foreign language proficiency, intercultural communication skills, new media technologies, and professional specialization.

Our Department aims not only to enhance communication skills but also to teach communication-related subjects through an interdisciplinary perspective. With a focus on new media technologies, it seeks to provide education in areas such as critical media studies, intercultural communication, and applied communication, and to prepare students for the social and professional demands of the 21st century. In addition, by integrating various fields and practices within the social sciences, the Department aims to equip its students for academic careers.

The most distinctive feature of the Department of Media and Communication is its interdisciplinary structure, grounded in the tradition of the social sciences and humanities. Within this framework, courses and research areas such as new media, social networks, culture, and social behavior are emphasized. Accordingly, our goal is to educate students not merely as media users or content producers, but as communication analysts and strategy specialists.

Education

Undergraduate Program:
Students will develop an understanding of the functions of media, the significance of communication, and how communication operates as a tool of control at the societal, organizational, and individual levels. They will learn to evaluate news and understand radio and television as communication tools. In addition, students will be trained to collect and analyze data using scientific research methods and social science research techniques, applying an analytical perspective to media and other sources of information.

Graduate Programs:
Through its graduate programs, the Department provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical competencies grounded in contemporary transformations in media and communication. It also supports students in gaining experience in diverse academic environments both domestically and internationally, offering opportunities to follow emerging approaches and developments in the field. In this way, students acquire both the fundamental skills required by the discipline and the intellectual competencies demanded by contemporary communication studies.
